The Day We Visited Levantine …
We ordered a variety of dishes in order to really sample the authentic tastes. Our choices included Hummus, Moutabal, Warak Enab, Mouhamara, Makanek, Shish Tawouk, Kafta, Batara Harra, Baklava pastries with pistachio & walnuts, and the Egyptian dessert Om Ali. YES! We ordered it all!

The Hummus was light and creamy while the smoky flavors of the roasted eggplant in the Moutabal paired perfectly with the freshly baked pita bread. The homemade Lebanese pickles were so colorful and loaded with tart & tangy flavors. The true showstopper of the Cold Mezza is the Mouhamara. It’s a delicious spread made from walnuts, roasted peppers, and pomegranate molasses. The Aleppo peppers give the dish a bit of a kick and really rounded out the overall flavors.
Makanek, homemade Lebanese sausages sauteed in pomegranate molasses, from the Hot Mezza selection are absolutely divine. The sausages are extremely tender and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
The two mains, Kafta and Shish Tawouk, were served on heaping plates with portions big enough to share. The ground beef & lamb in the Kafta were spiced just right and served with tahini, seasonal vegetables and we opted for both French fries and Lebanese rice. The grilled marinated chicken cubes of the Shish Tawouk were perfectly prepared and so tasty.

Dessert arrives, and although we are stuffed, we cannot say no! Om Ali is a traditional Egyptian dessert. It’s made of pastry divided into pieces and blended with pistachios, coconut flakes, raisins and a fair dose of sugar. Milk is poured over the mixture and then the entire dish is sprinkled with cinnamon before being baked until it’s golden brown. The dessert is rich and sweet, and pairs well with the Rose Mint Tea and Turkish coffee.
