As you walk through the beautiful Akyra Beach Club in Natai, Phangna, it’s easy to be distracted by the beautifully sleek white villas with traditional clay roof tiles, pristine swimming pool and jaw dropping view of the Andaman. But once you are seated at the very modest thatched-roof beach bar, the island vibe sinks in and you are truly able to take in your surroundings.
As you sip on your seaside cocktail or glass of wine, you are given time to decide whether you would like to dine with your toes in the sand or if you would rather enjoy your meal in the beautiful open air restaurant named after the beach club itself. Either way, you are gifted the most spectacular sunset views that Natai has to offer.
Restaurant guests and pool loungers enjoy slow beats emanating from the DJ booth, giving the beach club a very laid back and relaxed vibe. The simple, one-page menu is full of international favorites, such as Buffalo wings, nachos, sandwiches and pizza, but also offers a nice selection of Thai cuisine, like glass noodle salad, fried rice and massaman curry.
A wonderful way to start your dining experience at Akyra restaurant is with their Watermelon Ceviche with lime marinated raw tuna, cilantro and yellow watermelon or their Wagyu Salad made with tangy northern spices. Each with their own unique flavor combinations, they both embody a wonderful marriage between the texture of the meat and their accompaniments while cleansing the palate for the main course.
Depending on your mood, there are a few avenues to head down on the menu. If it is something light, yet filling you are after, the Lobster Rolls made with fresh Rock lobster, chives, coconut and lemon is just what you need. A very fresh and bright main, this beautiful meal lacked the assumed heaviness of a sandwich and was instead completely satisfying and delicious. However, if it is Thai cuisine you are craving, you are not to miss Akyra restaurant’s Chicken Green Curry with fresh basil and eggplant, served with rice. This thick coconut curry encompasses all of the flavors synonymous with Thai food – sweet, savory, sour and spicy. But what set this apart from the vast other green curries on the island was its perfect balance of coconut flavor and spice. Not too much of one or the other.
Nonetheless, no matter which way your appetite sways you, each table must try the signature Tom Yum Pizza with homemade sauce, Thai herbs, mozzarella and an astonishing amount of fresh seafood. Made in a ceramic-gas oven until cooked to perfection, this creative take on the Italian staple is both delicious and impressive. With a mound of mussels, prawn, squid and other sea faring creatures piled high, this dish will quickly become your new favorite.
To complete your meal in the most splendid way, the Key Lime Pie with lemon and lime mousse over a Sablé Breton pastry is sheer perfection. Tart and light with the exact level of sweetness, indulging in this delightful confection as you take in the view and listen to the sound of the waves crashing ashore, is the ideal way to end a lovely evening dining at Akyra Beach Club.
