Chickaboom, located on Phuket Road in the heart of Phuket Town, is a cute little addition to the city’s up-and-coming food scene. Originally planned as a food truck, Rose, owner and recipe maker extraordinaire, found it difficult to find places to set up shop and park – and boy are we ever glad! For now we know where to find them each and every day to get our fix of some of the best fried chicken wings on the island!

Making each batter and sauce recipe through trial and error, Rose has come up with excellent sauces, such as the spicy Boomer sauce with a big kick and smokey flavor, and the BBQ sauce with a bit of a tangy sweetness. Wings can be ordered boneless or traditional style from 3-12 pieces per set and are made fresh for each customer. Extras and sides include pickled radish, rice, French fries, and some of the best coleslaw we have tried yet!
And as much as we love finding great fried chicken wings smothered in delicious sauces, the winner for us was the Boomer Chicken Burger. The batter was reminiscent of American southern-style fried chicken, coated with the amazing smokey Boomer sauce and topped with lettuce, tomato and red onion. A huge portion and served with that delicious coleslaw and French fries, this amazingness is only 95 baht and definitely should be on every foodies must-try list!
All of these incredible fried dishes are made in the once-dreamt food truck, which sits street side at their open-air location. Offering floor and table seating under cover or outside, Chickaboom is full of greenery from the ground to the table, to the walls!
It is certainly one of the most charming restaurants in Phuket and where to eat in Phuket Town. Also on offer are your typical Thai beers, as well as Hoegaarden (classic and rose), a variety of Four Brother’s fruit cider, as well as classic and grapefruit Soju.
Next to arrive is the Sashimi Delight; beautifully tender pieces of raw seafood. There is Salmon, Toro (tuna belly), Akami (bluefin tuna) , Tako (octopus), Hamachi (yellowtail fish), Ama Ebi (sweet shrimp), Hokkigai (surf clam) and Ikura (Salmon roe) all served with seaweed and wasabi.
This really is the freshest food any of us can remember tasting and it seems fitting “ends of the earth” fare. We are told everything is imported directly from Japan. This prompts a discussion of the famed longevity of Japanese people and certainly someone eating from this selection regularly would enjoy very robust health.
Even the Beef Teppanyaki seems to dissolve into our tongues, tender doesn’t even describe it, it’s beyond that, you barely chew it. Come high season, as the rain dissipates, Rose intends to host movie nights from a projector onto the white painted wall in the back of the restaurant. This will be a welcome event and something different to offer those wanting to have something relaxing, yet fun to do for a night out on the town. Chickaboom is the perfect place to bring friends for a wing and beer night, or to enjoy a fun atmosphere with family.
We know we’ll certainly be back for more!
