Located at the backend of the gorgeous Pavilions Phuket in Laguna, you will find the beautifully chic and classy restaurant called Firefly. Decorated in warm tones highlighted by dim lighting and golden wood floors and bar, Firefly sits poolside covered by large white canvas pavilions and surrounded by stunning artwork from local Phuket artists. The restaurant offers indoor and patio seating, all cooled by a lovely breeze and accented by beautiful garden views.
The menu consists of an excellent array of Mediterranean inspired cuisine from the grill, rotisserie and wood oven. As one of only 5 female chefs on the island, Chef Belinda Tuckwell is at the reins in the kitchen and has played an integral part in Firefly being well received in a very competitive location in the market. Notable menu items include their Spiced Lamb Pizza with feta, pine nuts and mint; the Whole Fish with beans, sour lemon and harissa crumbs; and their steaks served with duck fat potatoes. And we were able to enjoy all three!
As for the steak, we opted for the Black Angus Ribeye, though you also have your choice of Wagyu Skirt Tagliata and Hereford True T-Bone. Each is served with a crisp side of watercress, and ours was topped with fresh black peppercorns adding a nice bite and spice. The beef itself was cooked and seasoned perfectly, needing no extra salt, pepper or any other condiment – though they are available. The duck fat potatoes were an incredible, decadent addition – soft, flavorful and practically melt in your mouth.
As for the Whole Fish, the sour lemon truly brings both freshness and interesting flavor combinations to the soft beans and harissa crumbs. All in all – a very excellent dish full of dimension and fun textures! The favorite of the evening, however, was absolutely the Spiced Lamb Pizza. The crust alone was divine – both crunchy and chewy with that incredible wood fired-taste. The spiced lamb was beautiful, melded perfectly with the light mint and creamy feta, which always gives the perfect amount of saltiness to any dish. If it is a lighter, but equally flavorful meal you are looking for, Firefly also offers a beautiful Roasted Vegetable Salad with whipped feta. With an amazing array of roasted veggies and mixed greens, this salad’s killer combo is the earthy tones from the beetroot mixed with the tart saltiness from the whipped feta, which also offers a great lightness to the entire dish.
To finish off your incredible meal, we recommend the Banana Split with marshmallow and salted caramel – a wonderful rendition of the classic dessert! Firefly truly is a beautiful dining experience made even better with the warm hospitality of Chef Belinda, who feels more like a family friend that likes to feed you than what you would expect a busy chef from such an amazing restaurant to be like. This is what we believe makes Firefly stand out from the rest.
