Step from Chiang Mai’s busy Loi Kroh road into a classic American Rock Bar serving the best burgers in town (with the accolades to prove it). Since the opening of Rock Me Burgers & Bar in 2014 they have received great recognition for their classic and inventive creations prepared and cooked from scratch entirely onsite. The owner, known by the name “Best”, doesn’t accept anything less than that when it comes to the quality and creativity of the food served.

With professional experience as a blues guitarist, Best has dedicated himself to creating a unique place where rock music and American food can fuse together as one. Spending his childhood studying in the USA and living with a typical American family, Best says his restaurant is a constant reminder of the wonderful memories he has from that time and a homage to a great experience which shaped him into who he is today. Now being open for almost four years, Rock Me Burger has won multiple food awards including the Wongnai’s (Thailand’s leading food review website) popular choice award for two years running.

Diners can choose to sit outdoors at the burger bar, watching the burgers being crafted to order and even the potatoes being cut fresh by a custom-made machine straight into the deep fryer. Alternatively, there are plenty of seats indoors which has an authentic rock bar feel with framed posters hanging of Jimmi Hendrix, Guns N’ Roses and other rock stars alongside images of Best also performing with his beloved guitar. Although it’s quite unlikely you will see live performances of these legends at Rock Me, dinner time during the weekends always comprises a colourful group of people who enjoy live rock music from talented local musicians.

As with his music, Best is a true creative in the kitchen. Every month he teams up with his head cook to develop a new creation. An interesting innovation at Rock Me Burger is the homemade breads in unique flavours, such as pumpkin and chocolate. Of course, there is white and whole wheat bread on offer for those who prefer the classic options. Whichever selection you choose, you can be sure the bread is fresh, as everything is baked on a daily basis.

Surprisingly, the chocolate bun is not overpowering with sweetness and provides a tasty base for one of Rock Me’s speciality burgers termed “Rocking in Hell”. This unique recipe includes spicy hot basil “krapow” sauce generously spread over 150 grams of ground pork or beef and accompanied by cheddar cheese, egg, champignon mushroom, and crispy bacon to offer an incredibly, creative American-Thai fusion burger.

Another product of creativity served is the “Chessy Nova; special “Nova” cheese sauce smothering a whopping 300 grams of ground beef or pork, sauteed mushrooms, then sprinkled with green peas and bacon bits before being topped with a duck egg. Like everything else on the menu, it’s best you begin with a large appetite!

Although we recommend trying Rock Me’s creative options, it is possible to go for a more traditional burger such as the ‘Rock Me Original’ made up of ground beef, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayo. There is also a great variety of other American comfort food such as hot dogs, ribs, wings, salads, pasta and sandwiches (albeit made from their special skull shaped bread). Non-alcoholic drinks such as Rockette Shakes topped with a decadent donut offer a tasty treat for those with a sweet tooth as well. And although well-known for their food, Rock Me has an excellent variety of cocktails, shots, and other mixers sure to get the party rocking. So if you’re looking for a casual yet substantial American meal in Chiang Mai, Rock Me Burgers & Bar is sure to satisfy cravings for both your stomach and your ears.
